Wow, cheapest I could find on my informal poll of three station signs at lunch is $2.41, and that is for the ethanol stuff, which is subsidized here.

E85 is cheaper than 87 octane?!

I’ve only see it on par with 93, which is 60-90 cents higher.

Pretty good deal for what is basically Race Gas.

Use a 27 gallon tote. And make sure you throw away the lid. Gas needs proper ventilation, adding oxygen to the gas will help it burn more efficiently! So leave it out for at least six months before use.

Here in Austin, E85 has been about 10-20¢ less/gal than 87. Though I haven’t paid much attention lately.

E85 usually is, at least everywhere I’ve seen it. Usually 60-90 cents lower  than E10 87.  Still not sure if that makes it any cheaper to run in a flex-fuel car though, since the whole worse mileage thing, but it’s great if you want to run something high-compression.

Wait. is E85 more expensive than 87 where you are? E85 is usually substantially cheaper than anything else around here. Current price shows E85 at $1.83 vs E10 Regular at $ 2.36, premium (91) is around $2.85.

While the pay is pretty good, it sounds like the working conditions are a bit rough. But you’ve got to give this company credit for turning a gas station into a destination.

If you don’t have a sub to WaPo, I can email you the article.

Cheap gas = economy hitting the skids.

Further confirmed when I w ent to Blue Ridge Parkway on a beautiful weekend in August - I had that road to myself. Went to PA for Labor Day, empty roads.

Cheap gas = economy hitting the skids.

Not necessarily. The US is now the world’s largest producer of oil . They are fracking the hell out of the Permian Basin . Texas alone is producing more oil than Iraq.

Got it. Pretty cool. Maybe I’d like a job there, although there’s a bit in there about not allowing employees to sit down much, so... :p

I think a  big  reason I’ve never been is that most of our road trips up North don’t pass by one that I remember.  I’ll have to see if I can chart it on the flight plan for next time.

Here in TX, I've experienced gas being more expensive down in Corpus, in the shadow of the refineries. Maybe somebody will explain that to me one day.

Sorry, b y e thano l stuff I meant meant gasoline blended with 10% ethanol, in my midwestern corn state it is 20-30 cents cheaper than non-blended gas, but still a lot more than $2.00 a gallon, haven’t seen that in a long time around here.

Kinja'd!!! facw > ttyymmnn
09/12/2019 at 19:26

Kinja'd!!!1

When I lived down there, gas was always cheaper in Austin than in Houston, sometimes substantially. In 2014 it was common enough for regular to be < $2/gallon at my local Kroger in Austin. Being close to the refineries in Houston didn’t help anything. I’d like to think legislators figured out a way to make sure they had cheap gas, but who knows...

I know they tried real hard to keep the old Mueller airport open so they could fly in at the last minute and get to the Capitol. That airport was a dump.

They should be pushing for a fast rail connection to the airport. Seems like it wouldn’t even be difficult since East Austin isn’t heavily developed.

Nah, they’re just building a toll road. There is one commuter rail line in Austin and it doesn’t go to the airport.
